Renewable Natural Gas (RNG)
Expanding Sustainable Energy In Our Communities
We are working toward offering our customers and communities innovative energy options that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower our carbon footprint. One way is through the development of renewable natural gas (RNG).
We’ve partnered with several companies to help advance our RNG efforts. While each opportunity that advances our RNG strategy is unique, there are three common attributes:
- Because it’s derived from organic waste materials from farms, landfills and wastewater treatment plants, RNG provides multiple environmental benefits as a clean energy delivery alternative. The biogas produced from the waste materials is processed and purified to create RNG that is fully interchangeable with conventional natural gas.
- Current and ongoing RNG initiatives will involve several of our business units, which play key roles in the process.
- The terms of the agreements with third-parties provide long-term financial value and a more sustainable future for our local communities and shareholders.

Cleanbay Renewables
Partnership
Just weeks after announcing our first RNG project with Bioenergy DevCo, we solidified another new partnership with CleanBay Renewables Inc., an enviro-tech company focused on the production of sustainable renewable natural gas, which will generate greenhouse gas credits associated with vehicular usage. This enables us to bring additional RNG to our Delaware and Maryland communities.
Noble Road Landfill Renewable
Natural Gas Project
We are partnering with Fortistar, a privately-owned investment firm that addresses global challenges, and Rumpke Waste & Recycling, one of the nation’s largest privately-owned residential and commercial waste and recycling firms. This partnership begins the construction of the Noble Road Landfill Renewable Natural Gas Project, a transportation decarbonization project in Shiloh, Ohio.
