Learn More About Our System Expansions

The energy we deliver contributes to economic growth, provides substantial environmental benefits and supports critical community revitalization efforts. Two of our recent expansions are highlighted below:

Somerset Expansion

Our recent Somerset expansion project extended natural gas access to Somerset County, Maryland, bringing modern infrastructure to one of the state’s most economically disadvantaged and underserved areas. This availability supports new economic development, offers environmental benefits by reducing reliance on higher carbon energy sources and attracts more commercial customers, including a planned mixed-use development near the local Historically Black College and University (HBCU). This growth is vital for building a strong, resilient local economy.

Vero Beach Expansion (Beachside Pipeline Extension)

In early 2023, our Peninsula Pipeline Company (PPC) completed a pipeline extension enabling natural gas service to communities along the last unserved barrier island in Florida. The pipeline interconnected with an existing PPC pipeline in Sebastian and extended to Vero Beach, requiring two underwater crossings. The water crossings were handled with two horizontal directional drills (HDD), minimizing impacts to the waterway. The 11-mile project was completed with no accidents in just under seven months. The new pipeline will transport natural gas and supply Florida City Gas at five new delivery points designed to serve natural gas to the communities of Wabasso, Wabasso Beach, Indian River Shores, North Hutchison Island and Harbor Isles.
