We care about our communities and we want to make sure that you stay safe and warm all winter long. Chesapeake Utilities Corporation created the SHARING fund with donations provided by customers, employees and the community to ensure that the elderly, ill and those facing financial hardship are not forgotten during the cold winter months when energy bills are at their peak.
The SHARING program is run by a Board of Trustees who volunteer their time to ensure this mission is met. They also participate in community functions to raise funds while also making those in the community aware of the program and its benefits. The grant levels from the SHARING Program have been level or have increased since they were incorporated and now some needy customers can receive grants of up to $1,000 if needed.
The SHARING fund, also known as the Chesapeake Emergency Energy Recipient Program (CHEERP), was incorporated in 1983. Over the last five years, Chesapeake Sharing distributed more than 1,100 grants totaling over $250,000 to Delmarva families in need of financial assistance.
