Dover, Delaware — Chesapeake Utilities Corporation (NYSE: CPK) announced today that its energy subsidiary, Florida Public Utilities Company (FPU), received an award as well as several other accolades from Chartwell and PR News for FPU’s social media campaign informing and protecting customers during Hurricane Irma.

“I am incredibly proud of our FPU team. Our employees are committed to providing outstanding service and unsurpassed customer care for all of our customers, especially during challenging times,” said Michael P. McMasters, President and Chief Executive Officer of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation. “The Hurricane Irma electric restoration effort was the largest restoration event that the U.S. has experienced, and we were proud to provide our customers with up-to-the-minute information and exceptional service.”

FPU’s Hurricane Irma Community Engagement Campaign was recognized at Chartwell’s 2018 Outage Communications Conference with the Best Practices in Outage Communications Bronze Award for Mid-size Utilities. FPU was praised for tackling the communication challenges of the storm, which included handling an unusually large volume of inquiries and customer interactions. The Company’s dedicated Customer Care, Communications and Operations team members successfully managed and executed a social media strategy that helped to keep FPU customers safe, informed and in contact with FPU representatives during their greatest times of uncertainty.

At the 2018 PR News’ Social Media Awards luncheon, FPU also received Honorable Mention recognition in two categories – Facebook-Best PR Campaign and Facebook-Community/Engagement – for Hurricane Irma Restoration Communications. The PR News’ annual awards highlighted the best social media teams, digital leaders and the year’s best social media campaigns across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat, plus unique blogs and infographics.

“We are very pleased to be recognized for our customer communications and care by Chartwell and PR News,” said Jeff Householder, President of Florida Public Utilities Company. “Hurricane Irma impacted Amelia Island, Florida causing loss of power to all of our electric customers on the island and numerous customers in northwestern Florida. Our team worked nonstop to have all power restored within 100 hours. The efforts by our Customer Care, Communications and Operations team were carefully and consistently communicated to our customers to provide some reassurance and relief during times of uncertainty.”
